How to Keep Your Skin Hydrated in Summer

By softskinzone

Your skin can be dehydrated by the sun, wind, and water this summer. Dry skin can lead to flaking skin, uneven skin tone, and worse, premature aging. These simple steps will keep your skin hydrated and allow you to still enjoy the sun.

Water

Your skin will dry out if you get too much water on it, especially if it is saltwater or pool water. Drinking plenty of water in the summer will keep your skin hydrated at a cellular level. The recommended daily intake of water is 8 glasses. You can add some more water if you’re exposed to the elements. Water is preferred over all other beverages.

Cleanse

Dry skin can be caused by the accumulation of pollutants and contaminants in the atmosphere. These contaminants can be removed by washing your face at least twice per day, or after you’ve spent some time outside. Use cleansers and soaps to keep your skin from drying out.

Toners

Toners are creams and solutions that reduce or tighten pores. Smaller pores reduce moisture loss. A toner should be applied after cleansing and before moisturizing.

Moisturizers

It is important to moisturize your skin after you have washed it, and before you go outside or swim. You need to find a moisturizer that actually moisturizes your skin, not just a thin layer of oil. To find the best moisturizer for you, test out products by taking into account your skin type. Use as much as you like.

Scrubs

Your skin cells take 27 days to regenerate (www.webmd.com/beauty/wrinkles/cosmetic-procedures-overview-skin). This means that the epidermis is continually being covered by a layer of skin cells. Dead cells hinder the absorption and should be removed at least once per week using a scrubber, brush, cream or lotion.

Sun Block

Sunblock should be applied before going outside, after swimming, and after spending time in the sun. Sunblock protects skin from sunburns and provides protection against the drying effects of wind and water. Sunblock seals the skin to prevent moisture loss.

Products with a sun protection factor of 50+ (SPF) provide both UVA and UVA blocking.

Good Nutrition

Good nutrition is key to healthy skin. Good skin health starts with fresh fruits and vegetables. Oils found in nuts and seeds can help to maintain skin’s hydration from the inside.

Antioxidants in foods help to eliminate toxins, stimulate healthy cell regeneration, and slow the aging process. Supplements can be a great way for your skin to get the nutrients it needs.

You can avoid the damaging effects of summer by living a healthy lifestyle and paying attention to your skin every day.
